Nolan's 4th Birthday!

When I asked Nolan what type of theme he wanted for his birthday this year, he was quick to respond with one of our most watched movies lately... Sing!  I wanted to make sure it wasn't 100% cheesy character overload, so I tried to incorporate a little bit more into the party.  We recently went to a good friend's movie night birthday party, and I thought it would be cute to use that idea a bit and show the actual Sing movie during Nolan's birthday, as well!  I asked him what else he would like to do at his party, and he said he wanted to sing all of the songs from the movie, so of course, I had to throw some karaoke in there, too!  Nolan's Karaoke Sing 4th Birthday was a success, the kids had a ton of fun and I was super happy with how everything turned out!

A karaoke party wouldn't be complete without a stage, so we made our very own SING set!  I loved this so much we kept it up for a couple days after to play with, haha!  I had blow up guitars and flashing sunglasses for the kids to use while performing... or just to smack each other with most of the night, in reality!  We turned the living room into a movie theatre with curtains, and later in the evening, tossed some blankets and pillows down for the kids to wind down and snack while the movie played.

For food, we kept it simple with pizza, chicken and veggies, and had a concession stand with popcorn and candy (complete with movie snack boxes!) for the movie showing later in the evening.  Nolan chose his cake flavors and went suuuuuper simple with vanilla all around!  I went with the color scheme and kept it with black and gold for the cake decorations, and included some Sing characters on the rest of our cupcakes!

I tried my hand at a Pinterest project and it wasn't a complete #nailedit fail... these microphone cupcakes came out somewhat decent looking (ha!), but tasted fantastic so that's all that mattered!  The kids were stoked about them, although some were a little disappointed when they realized the "ice cream cone cakes" didn't have any actual ice cream in them!

Before our guests arrived, I snapped a few pictures of the birthday boy on his big day!  Auntie Jess made him the BEST Sing shirt to wear... seriously, so cute!  And of course, Acelyn had to be in some of the pictures, too, because- don't leave this chick out or she'll freak!

Once everyone arrived, we mingled for a bit, and then directed the kiddos to the table to create their own movie star/pop star Walk of Fame handprints!  Each kiddo was able to paint their own handprint craft and take it home at the end of the night, and they turned out so cute and perfect!

After quickly cleaning up from our arts and crafts project, it was karaoke time!  I wasn't sure how the kids were going to take to this activity... Nolan loved the microphone when it was just us playing around the house, but I was a little worried he might get shy and not want to do it in front of everyone.  To my surprise, he was all about it, and although very serious, he sang away to "I'm Still Standing" from, surprise surprise, the movie Sing!

Most of the other kiddos were pretty into it, especially the older girls, who danced and sang their little hearts out!  It was super fun to watch all of them request their own songs and perform, especially Beckham, who stood extremely still but was 100% game face for his song, Thunder, and Coen, who was a little shy on singing the words and had some help from his Mama!

We let the kids play some more songs and run amuck with toys, grabbed some dinner and then it was cake time!  Nolan was looking forward to the Happy Birthday song for weeks before his party, and soaked up the attention when all eyes were on him to blow his candles out!

Next up, more sugar!  The kids each got their own movie snack box and were able to pig out on popcorn and their choice of candy.  They settled down on the blankets and we started the show!  It wasn't long before some of the kids were up and off playing with more toys, so we moved on to opening gifts while the movie continued to play.

Nolan got some great gifts from his family and friends, and absolutely loved each one of them!  He literally asked for each of them that whole night and we opened and played with everything the next day, too.  He's a lucky boy to be loved by so many people!  Thank you to everyone who gifted him something special!

Finally, as the night ended, Nolan's friends were treated to their own microphones and swag bags filled with little goodies (filled with Pop Rocks, lolliPOPS, and some other goodies) as their favors. They also were able to take home their handprint craft, inflatable guitars and flashing sunglasses from earlier in the evening.

We had the best time throwing such a fun party, and hope all his friends enjoyed their time, too!  I know Nolan thought it was the best day ever, and I still can't believe my baby is FOUR!  Thanks to our friends and family who came to help celebrate, and those that couldn't make it for sending lots of love to Nolan on his big day.  And if you need us, we'll be over here doing karaoke 24/7, since this party brought out a new obsession for my kids!
