Over the weekend, Nolan got to visit his second pumpkin patch of the fall season! We went with my mom and Jason sat this one out since he was on call at work for the week. We visited the local pop-up pumpkin patch, where Nolan took a ton more pictures with pumpkins big and small, got to pet some animals in the petting zoo, and met some new scarecrow friends!
The night before, we bought Nolan a pumpkin to carve while we were running errands at Lowe's. When we got home, we got straight to carving! I had seen an awesome idea from todaysthebestday blog, so I used that as our carving inspiration and went with it! After tracing his hands and feet, Nolan was super into gutting the pumpkin. Once I got all of the seeds out, I let him go to town. He didn't really know what to think and was a little grossed out by it. Once his skin starting turning orange, I decided it was probably time for a bath, and I would finish carving when he went to sleep. It came out pretty good and I took some pictures of it glowing at night, and would continue to snap some shots of Nolan with his very own carved pumpkin in the morning.
The next morning, I took his pictures next to his pumpkin, and then we ventured out to the pumpkin patch with my mom. He loved sitting in the pile of pumpkins, touching each one, looking around and checking out all the people and fun things around him. He was super excited about watching the train go in circles, and yelled at it a lot in excitement! As we made our way over to the "petting zoo", Nolan stopped and talked with some scarecrow friends that he thought were pretty cool. He liked to touch them and kept trying to pull their clothes off.
Once we got into the petting zoo, Nolan found a chicken friend, first. He was obsessed! He laughed and laughed at the chicken, and kept trying to reach for him and chase him around the bale of hay. The chicken was too smart and would jump from hay bale to hay bale, but this only kept Nolan more intrigued and laughing. He finally followed him all the way to the corner where the chicken ducked under the wire, and was safe from Nolan's sneaky hands. We also pet some goats (poor things were so hot, they were just laying around, panting), and some sheep, but Nolan was way more into the two chickens so we spent most of our time chasing them around!
On our way out, we took some more pictures in the gourds pile and the baby pumpkin pile! None of the baby pumpkins had stems, which Nolan loved about his other baby pumpkin from Gilcrease, so we decided to wait and grab some more smaller ones from the grocery store next time we were out.
It was a super hot afternoon, but it made for some great pictures and Nolan really enjoyed getting out to see different things and chase some chickens! Next time, we may grab Dad and go in the evening when the lights are lit up and it's cooler outside! We love the fall season so much and love enjoying the activities around town!
