Can you believe we've already come upon Acelyn's first birthday party!? It came out amazing and just like I imagined a whole year ago. When Acelyn decided to come a little early and make her arrival on Kentucky Derby Day last year, I knew that was a theme we could really run with for her party, plus I had always wanted to host/attend a Derby party with fun hats and dressing up, so it was a perfect fit!
Of course Acelyn had to have her own special Derby hat, and even if she didn't keep it on the whole time, it was still adorable and completed her outfit! Before everyone arrived, we snapped some pictures of the birthday girl as well as our fun decor.
The 12-month progression garland is always so bittersweet- I really can't believe how quickly a whole year flies by, especially the second time around! I loved the paper roses from The Kind Pilot to space between each month.
For favors, our kiddo guests were given a goodie bag of toy horses and other fun horse themed trinkets, and all our guests were gifted a mini Southern pie of different flavors.
The cupcakes and cake were simple rosettes and the colors came out SO good! I was seriously impressed, especially with the peach, blush and red. We received the silhouette print of Acelyn from Dapper and Darling and it is one of my favorite things from her party and now sits in her room on display. I love that it shows every little detail of her tiny self and I'm definitely keeping it forever!
We had a mint julep bar for the adults, as well as some Southern Lemonade and Sweet Tea for everyone. For food, we had some Derby staples such as Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders, Benedictine Tea Sandwiches, Southern Potato Salad, and a favorite, Chicken and Waffles!
The kids spent most of their time playing outside, where we had some fun outdoor games like Cornhole and Horseshoes (of course) set up, as well as chalk and bubbles. Inside, we played a rousing game of Pin the Tail on the Pony, where the birthday girl started but really had no interest in pinning her pony tail on so she bolted. Each kid took some spins and pinned up their horse tails- it always amazes me how much fun they think this simple game is!
Acelyn was gifted with some awesome gifts from her friends and family and loves each and every one of them! Nolan was a great big brother and excitedly helped her with opening and showing her what she received.
We snapped some pictures of all the kids together in their Derby outfits, which was no easy task, and they came out so funny and cute!
Acelyn took a second to warm up to her smash cake, and wasn't quite sure what was going on when we all started singing to her. After a few minutes, she decided to test it out and then got really into it! She loved sharing with Nolan and Hudson and kept offering bites to everyone around her, even Harley got in on some cake action! I'd say she had a pretty successful birthday cake experience!
Her party was so fun and I think everyone enjoyed getting the chance to dress up and sport some fancy hats and bowties! Thank you to all of our friends and family for helping celebrate our baby girl!
